Ecotoxicology has been defined as, "the branch of toxicology concerned with the study of toxic effects, caused by natural or synthetic pollutants, to the constituents of ecosystems, animal (including human), vegetable and microbial, in an integral context". We as a research group enjoy that ecotoxicology is highly inter-disciplinary: if you study endocrine disrupting chemicals (hormonforstyrrende stoffer) you will learn about both organic chemicals and the hormone system; if you study the biochemical effects of metals you will learn about both chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology. Offers fundamental research on the effects of toxic chemicals on populations, communities and terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems Shows how chemicals exert effects on ecosystems, examines their impact at the population and community level Includes original papers, technical notes and review articles The science of studying these effects is called ecotoxicology. 1 Ecotoxicology is a mix of ecology, toxicology, physiology, analytical chemistry, molecular biology, and mathematics. Ecotoxicology looks at the impacts of contaminants including pesticides on individuals, populations, natural communities, and ecosystems. Ecotoxicology is a relatively new scientific discipline and is a branch of toxicology that studies the subtle toxic effects that pollution exerts on living organisms by investigating the fate and effects of chemicals and natural substances on ecosystems. The term ecotoxicology merges the fields of ecology and toxicology.

Associate Editors: AQUATIC ECOTOXICOLOGY Ecotoxicology is the study of how contaminants affect wildlife and their habitats. Chemicals of concern include both those purposefully released into the environment (for example, pesticides) and those that are inadvertently released (for example, mining waste or combustion exhaust). Subject description. The PhD programme in Ecotoxicology includes studies of human influence on biological organisms at all levels of biological organization, from molecules to populations, communities and ecosystems. Ecotoxicology builds on the science of toxicology and the principles of toxicologic testing, though its emphasis is more at the population, community, and ecosystem levels (Moriarty, 1988).
